Our sincere “thank you” to the more than 275 industry executives who joined ABA’s Virtual Convention last month. Not only was the virtual event a chance to bring the industry together for discussions around current industry trends and adapting to the post-COVID environment, it was also a chance to spend time with each other and share common challenges and experiences from this past year.
The Convention agenda opened with the annual All-Membership Meeting. If you were unable to attend, we wanted to make sure you had an opportunity to learn about the key takeaways from this important annual ABA Member gathering.
Continued Commitment to Our Members
ABA is more committed than ever to delivering a wealth of actionable intelligence and curated networking opportunities for our Members. You and your employees have worked harder than ever over the past year to provide sustaining and delicious products to consumers when they needed them most. The ABA team and I are your trusted partners as we continue to navigate the pandemic's ongoing challenges, a shift in the federal administration, and the perpetual need to recruit and retain our workforce.
I urge you to take a few minutes to watch the ABA Year in Review video, which succinctly recaps all we have been able to accomplish as an association during the past year.
Recognition of Erin Sharp as ABA's Immediate Past-Chair
In 2021, we had initially intended to commemorate in person the leadership of our outgoing chair, Erin Sharp of Kroger. Unfortunately, that vision did not come to fruition. However, we could not let another year go by without recognizing Erin's incredible leadership. The entire industry greatly appreciates her commitment to continuing leading ABA as Immediate Past Chair during these unprecedented times.
Upcoming Membership Renewals
Last year, the Board of Directors decided to phase in a new revenue restructuring plan, including adjustments to ABA’s dues schedules, over two years in recognition of the challenges presented by COVID. The Membership team is getting ready for the roll-out of ABA’s upcoming membership renewal cycle and the second year of the dues restructuring. Please keep a look out for your digital renewal package via email in late May.
The Membership team is also excited to announce a few updates for our upcoming renewals:
- First, ABA’s Premium Allied membership has received a price reduction and a boost in its offerings - now including IBIE benefits.
- Second, a new Affiliated Brand add-on that provides Allied Members with the opportunity to extend membership benefits to affiliated or subsidiary brands for a significantly reduced price point. ABA Allied members can include these brand teams in ABA communications, networking, and event opportunities. This offering will further ABA's ability to serve our Allied member companies and their employees more effectively.
- Finally, the Board agreed to extend the option of quarterly payments for one more year to allow our current Members with flexibility in their payment terms given the ongoing economic climate.
The Membership team, led by Jenn Colfelt, is happy to answer any questions regarding the final installment of the dues restructuring as well as the enhanced Allied Member offerings.
Preparations for IBIE 2022 in Las Vegas are full steam ahead. As a co-owner of the show, ABA is extremely involved in the careful planning and execution of the Western Hemisphere's largest grains-based show and educational event. Importantly, we learned during the Convention that our European partner, iba, has delayed their show to now take place in 2023. This update means IBIE will be the first large-scale baking industry gathering since the start of the pandemic – and since the last IBIE in 2019.
For 2022 we will be moving from Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center to the new, state-of-the-art West Hall and maintaining our North Hall location as well. New pavilions will be added to further enhance the show experience, including areas focusing on cannabis and sanitation, and IBIE looks forward to hosting the 2022 World Bread Awards for the first time. We are truly thrilled to be able to gather the entirety of the industry next year.
Thank you, again, for your continued support of the baking industry's trade association. As we continue to process the dramatic events of 2020 and 2021, we know that together, our Members and our industry will emerge stronger than ever. We look forward to our continued partnership doing so.
